Title: Everybody Does It
By: Santiago Dumlao, Jr.

Plain, simple and straight but eye opener-composition, truly moving. This story taught me many things in life, more especially on my moral obligations. This brilliant piece can inspire many people to become the persons of high moral values, breaking the unacceptable practices that become norms in the society at large. Honestly, I have been in the shoes of Johnny many times, in my workplace, school and in many situations. It seem like it becomes a norm nowadays and widely acceptable because everybody does it. Indeed, this a great revelation to every one of us, to acknowledge our judgement about what is good and bad. The story presented is the same as what we usually do in school as teachers. Let me present you particular case which is lobbying the school heads or higher authorities to grab some higher positions/items. I know this is not only true to our school but perhaps most schools. But, I know this will end to something not good.
This story has something to do with the topic we have had last Saturday, about the norms of morality. Sometimes in life, we view morally unacceptable things as acceptable because we take it from others, as the title goes “Everybody Does it”. We do things sometimes because majority does. This story is very timely, and maybe this is a sort of confrontation to me. My sister is running as an SK Chairwoman under the administration line up and the aspiring Kapitan asked her to contribute thousands of pesos to be given to the voters. This situation seems a usual thing for me every election and it seems acceptable. But hell no, as I read the passage, it tells me a lot of lessons and now I am contemplating of convincing my sister never to give any money just for the sake of election, if they will vote, then good, if not, then so be it. Your mental and emotional faculties will tell you something about your deeds and the things you plan to do. Simple rule to follow is always do what is right and never assume morally unacceptable act as acceptable.
This reading material can be used in my high school class and I bet they need to read this story and let them reflect. The style, presentation and length are amazingly and genuinely planned that readers like me would really appreciate. Content wise and a good material for moral education lessons.
