Title: 10 Distinctive Features of the Japanese Education
System that Made This Nation Envy of the World
I love reading articles from “Bright Sides”, they features
wonderful stories that inspire everyone to live, work and be happy. I have encountered
this article long ago but it seems I forgot the whole thing of it. And yes,
good thing was given again to review some sort of things that we need to take
from the kind people of Japan especially in the field of education. The article
highlights 10 features about the wonderful education system they are
implementing and it would be best to sum them up. Manners before Knowledge. I was quite fascinated with this idea and
truly, Ph should follow this. Children in their preschool days or primary days
must be taught with the necessary values and virtues for them to become
responsible and upright children because I do believe in the biblical saying
that goes “Train up a child the way he should go, and when he is old he will
not depart from it”. It terms of their academic calendar, I don’t have any
strong comment about it, as it is the same as what we have in our schools in
the Ph. Students clean their school
themselves. Yes, in the Philippines,
the chances of allowing your students to clean their own environment depends to
what type of school they are enrolled in. For instance, I am teaching in a
public school and hence no Janitorial services are employed because of limited
funds, so, the teachers have no choice but to let their students practice
cleaning the classroom, ground and even toilet. But this practice in Japan is
something we need to learn regardless of schools you are in, because even if
you can afford to let your child to study in a prestigious school, what matter
most are the values they can learn out of cleaning their own place, the sense
of responsibility and cooperation can be instilled. Moreover, when you let your
students to do the cleaning, it teaches them to respect individuals regardless of
their jobs. School lunch is provided.
This is something I think the Philippines cannot do as soonest. Perhaps, if the
long-tradition of corruption in the whole Government system is minimized if not
stopped, then, there is a slight hope for the Filipino children going to school
with lunch ready to be served. School
Workshops are very popular in Japan. Because of the workloads and
additional works of teacher, it seems impossible for them to render extra
service for workshops to take place meaningfully. Japanese students also learn Japanese calligraphy. This is
interesting, even if we strive to keep abreast with the trends in the
international education arena and integrate with the ASEAN and international
standards, we, as a Filipino, must not forget the culture, language, arts and
traditions which made us unique and distinct nation. Wearing of School Uniform. Almost schools do that here, no
reactions about it. 99.99% School attendance.
We can never do this, in my opinion, with the state of country we have.
There are many factors to consider that affects the attendance of school
children specially those students in poor rural and urban communities. College Admission Test that would decide
their future. This is something I’m against to, we can never judge students
solely on their test performance. I think one will excel if we allow him to
practice and improve his/her skills in his/her chosen fields.
This reading material has something to do with the social
morality. The kind of morality we have as Filipinos will also reflect to our
ways and views and that affect the education system we have right now.
