A Friendly Reminder To Students: Your Attitude Can Either Help Or Break You!

Disclaimer: It would be safe for me to say that, yes, teachers may differ in terms of perceptions, assumptions, opinions and whatever it is, I absolutely agree. But this opinion is very personal, taking into account my experiences in the teaching world, interacting different types of personalities of diverse students.

Let me start this argument by asking the following questions:
1. Am I sensitive to my students' movements or gestures in class?
2. Do I feel being hated or disliked by the students basing the way they behave?
3. Do I have the tendency to remember the students and hate him/her for a reason of manifesting misbehavior and irritating attitude?
4. What irritates me the most?
5. How will I respond and deal with those kind of students?

Hmmm... The questions are tough, but answering these questions would absolutely allow students to ponder and reflect too as I do.

First, "Am I sensitive to my students' movements or gestures in class?"
YES! I am. The way you act and behave inside my class is always noted. Just a simple yawn, stretching, leaning towards other chair, and all those movements are recorded. The one that irritates me most often is when students sleep during my class, I consider it as an insult and good thing I still have the self-control but sometimes be careful, when the container is full, it spills! and sometimes it's messy, really messy.

Therefor, students, you do note!, if you feel bad, bothered, problematic or sick during my class, just tell me, I can understand, at least I was informed.

Second, "Do I feel being hated or disliked by the students basing the way they behave?
YES, Absolutely! I can smell and feel those students. But let me remind everybody, If you don't like me, please don't ask me the same question! Life is simple as that, Newton's Third Law of Motion can prove that. Whatever force you give, I will give it back, but it is doubled sometimes (defying the law). Fortunately, I am learning to practice the importance of ignoring the irrelevant, the forces of the universe will take care of them. Plain and simple, for as long as I am not harming you or anyone, you have no reason to hate me.

Third, "Do I have the tendency to remember the students and hate him/her for a reason of manifesting misbehavior and irritating attitude?"
YES! and sometimes it can cause collateral damage, affecting civilians and innocents. When I encounter such problem inside the classroom, everybody is affected, that is why, I feel bad and sad at the same time when students who are actually good and well mannered are affected. Very sorry if you feel you are one of them. But, yes, students whom I noticed to be misbehaving and with attitude problem, they are really getting down into my spine up to my neurons, I always remember!. Hope students are sensitive too. Moreover, students who are too proud and not courteous, students who feel they are better than their teachers,  hmmm, huwag ako! HAHA. I would like to special mention those students who cannot afford to say good morning or whatever every time they cross path with their teachers. Lastly, let it be known to everyone, specially those who feel like they are way better than their teachers, I have a note for you! "manner matters my dear".

Fourth, "What irritates me the most"
Disrespectful. You know this well and its sub components.

Fifth,  "How will I respond and deal with those kind of students?"
Life is too short to entertain stress. Although, as a teacher we have role as an adviser, counselor or whatever, but sometimes it doesn't work. "We will sow what we reap" as saying goes. What I only wish is for them to grow in wisdom, because knowing the truth is not enough, but applying the truth right makes them more human.
